Hotels on La Ropa Beach

Alaska Airlines is the best airline to fly to Zihuatanejo nonstop from LAX, only three hours and 15 minutes. Cost is about $450.

Currently because it is off-season, they are only flying out of LAX on Wednesday and Saturday. For travel to Mexico, as long as you are back in USA when your passport expires, you are good to go. In terms of safety, Zihuatanejo is quite safe unless you’re hanging out in the downtown area after 2 AM. Taxi ride from the airport to La Ropa Beach will cost about 600$ pesos. Travel time about 20 minutes.

In terms of which hotel to stay at on La Ropa Beach, you have many options. Depending on your budget, on the less expensive side is the Catalina Beach Resort which will go for approximately $150 per night per room including breakfast. Off season rate. Make sure you get an air-conditioned room. They have lovely balconies right on the ocean.

Higher up costs would be the Hilton or the Thompson (Hyatt).

In the middle would be Villa Mexicana with either an oceanfront or garden view room. They are running an off-season special of 4149$ pesos per night and you get one free night for every three that you pay for. Price includes breakfast. After dividing by about 17 pesos to the US dollar and noting the free night, it comes out to approximately $183 per night. The nice part of Villa Mexicana is that their oceanfront rooms are literally right on the sand. They have two levels, upstairs and downstairs.

The Catalina on the other hand has wonderful, oceanfront views, it’s an older hotel, no elevators, built into the hillside, with many stairs to get up and down when you want to go to the beach, but not a big deal at all. At least not a big deal unless you have joint issues.
